Library policies

Policies

Requesting Services

Library patrons are responsible for the cost of lost or severely damaged items. Charges for lost or damaged items are based on the cost of replacing the item with the same or similar items plus a $10 processing fee. For interlibrary loan items, the cost of replacing the item will be determined by the lending library. An item will be considered lost when it is 90 days overdue (including weekends and holidays).

The reserve collection consists of books, articles, and other materials (print or electronic) placed on reserve by a faculty member for use in a specific course. The following policies apply to Course Reserves:

  • Print reserves are available for “on-campus” use only and cannot be removed from the building without prior approval. The library currently does not levy fines for overdue materials. However, we reserve the right to institute fines if late returns become excessive.

Please email our library staff at library@newlinesinstitute.org to request or place an item on reserve for a course.

Interlibrary loan procedures

The following procedures apply to all interlibrary loan (ILL) requests at New Lines Institute. Please note that fees, fines, and shipping charges may be incurred based on the policies of the lending library.

Submitting ILL request

The lending library determines the loan period for materials and may also set terms for renewals. If a renewal is allowed for an item and a patron wishes to request one, the renewal must be submitted no later than 3 business days before the loan period expires. Renewal requests can be made to the NLI Library via email at library@newlinesinstitute.org

Books, journal articles, and other materials not available in the New Lines Institute Library collection may be requested through Interlibrary Loan. All requests are subject to approval by the lending library and must comply with applicable copyright laws.

The following materials cannot be requested through ILL:

  • Textbooks
  • Newspapers in print form
  • Computer software
  • Non-circulating items from other libraries
  • Special collections or archival materials

Please note that the lending library reserves the right to deny any loan request.

Patrons are expected to handle all borrowed materials with care and are responsible for any damages, overdue fees, or fines incurred. Additionally, patrons are responsible for covering any fees, fines, or shipping costs associated with borrowing materials from other libraries.

To pick up or return items that are being used from Interlibrary Loan, please contact our library staff at library@newlinesinstitute.org.

*Please note: The New Lines Institute Library complies with the American Library Association’s Interlibrary Loan Code for the United States and the OCLC’s Loan Policy. These policies can be found using the links below.
